Oh I get by with a little help from my friends

"May the young man be sad-minded
with hard heart-thoughts, yet let him have
a smiling face along with his heartache,
a crowd of constant sorrows."

- “The Wife’s Lament” ~ Anonymous

Without a doubt this is the event that stands out most to me from 2011. I remember every detail of this game and the day. I got so much crap from my fraternity brothers for not going lazy tubing with them for the afternoon; but we had hosted a party the night before and I just didn’t feel like get hammered again so soon haha. Instead, I decided to stay in my apartment and watch the game against Brazil. If you don’t know me too well I have to say I love soccer, its probably my favorite sport to watch, I am an absolutely fanatical fan. Watching this game was a life experience unto itself, there was so much tension and drama, it was great. From taking the early lead to falling behind especially once we were down to 10 women, it was incredible. I remember cursing out Erika when she faked injury, screaming at the TV during the build up to Wambach’s goal, jumping on my couch and doing a two armed fist pumping celebration while I blasted ‘born in the usa’ by bruce. I then proceeded to party for the team, and once my brothers returned from tubing we had an absolute rager of celebration for TEAM USA. #2011

Already gearing up for second semester parties, gotta have some fresh beats for the new year.

Been having a lot of talks lately with people about growing up and being adults. It only seems natural that as college seniors the future should be on our mind, especially given how unknown and uncontrollable the future can seem. It’s a very abstract yet substantial thing, the future. Just thinking about or hearing those two words conjures up all sorts of possibilities, definitions and desires. What we want, hope, and wish for all seem to be represented by them. The single biggest thing all my friends mention when we talk about being an adult is the belief that being an adult means that you cannot be a kid anymore. Frankly, I just do not buy into that idea. Don’t get me wrong, the future scares me just as much as the next person. These days it seems we have to have everything figured out all the time, always have to keep the big picture in mind. We forget to live in the here and now if we worry about the future too much. That’s why I love this song by VIBE, one of my favorite duo’s. They talk about going back to when they were kids and everything was the best thing in the world. But, in my opinion at least, there is always a part of us that is a kid. It’s the part that takes joy at the little things, revels in a sunny day, time with the family or heck even a candy bar. (cue snickers commercial) We never lose that innocence that we had as a kid, we just become more realistic. But when we least expect it the simple things overcome our real-i-cism and we live in the moment and party in our business suits. Cheers.

The Zeitgeist for 2011 just came out and, personally, it is totally awesome. I love the song choice, Mat Kearney’s “Sooner or Later” is the perfect choice for this video, not just musically but I think the idea of the song itself lends power to video. Not sure how other’s feel about it, but 2011 seems to be a year where issues came to a head rather abruptly, sometimes with good results but sometimes with bad results. Kearney talks about the idea of that person who walks through all of life’s crap with you. What makes this particularly meaningful is that he does not specify your relationship with that person; they could be a friend, lover, family member or complete stranger. This year has proven that expectations can be shattered, the status quo shaken, that change is not always easy to achieve and sometimes what we want is not always what we get. All that being said, the video is well made and compelling. I love it. It brings a lot of global information together in one package, and that’s what this year has done, bring people together like never before. #onelove

I know its late but I just started my blog plus I love this video. enjoy.

I love this song. Plain and simple. Timeflies is this great duo based out of Brooklyn that you outta know. They can sample pretty much anything, from Space Jam to Under the Sea as is the case here. It’s not one of their well known or even top tracks, but something about it is just awesome. I mean this song screams being an 80’s/90’s child but they turn it around and make it one, a rap song, and two adult up the lyrics. Anyway, I hope you like the song, this is my first of many blog updates on music. I love music, probably more then anything. Enjoy. Cheers.

I’m gonna give this stuff a try. Blogging seems cool. It’ll help me get my creative side out, I like to think that I have some interesting stuff rumbling around in my brain and this way I can get it out. For example, right now I have astronomy on the brain. Not by choice really, I have my astronomy final tomorrow. I go to Denison U and I am required to take a quantitative course and I thought astronomy would be interesting. Turns out it is, but it is also hard, real hard. And I am very bad at math unfortunately haha. While it has been a challenging course a lot of that is my fault for making it harder then it should be. I did not try at all at the start of the semester and my grade sort of reflects that. So here I am pulling an all nighter before the final and I need to get a C or better on this test in order to finish my quantitative requirement. I should probably go study…peace out for now
